Painted Bride’s building purchase: a striking new concept or a perilous choice?

Once the Painted Bride Art Center announced by the end of November it would sell its mosaic-sheathed building at 230 Vine St. in Old City and use the profits to become a “project-based” organization, the Philadelphia social globe reacted with a combination of sadness — rather than a small anxiety.

“This decision claims a whole lot about arts funding into the town,” said performer Nell Bang-Jensen, 29. “It scares me personally as a more youthful musician.”
